This week’s demonstration on both sides of the fence will demand an end to the Israeli policy of targeting medics. The protestors will demand accountability for the medics who have been injured and murdered while providing medical assistance during the protests. According to World Health Organization (WHO) and health officials in Gaza, 3 health workers have been killed by Israeli forces and at least 52 injured while providing first aid to the wounded during the Marches, most while wearing clothing identifying them as medics. The injuries have been by live ammunition, tear gas canisters, shrapnel and tear gas inhalation.
The deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian objects, including medical staff and paramedics, constitutes a serious violation of the laws and customs of war and amounts to a war crime giving rise to individual criminal responsibility under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
